What determines a good education?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 28, 2007:
The best evaluator of a good education would be the student.
Ideally, education would edify, empower and provide the tools to enable individuals to articulate their natural selves.
Education would teach students to appreciate differences in others and open their minds to new challenges.
Education would provide the grounding for individuals to continue in self exploration so that they know their own minds and have a healthy sense of self.
But, this would all be if I had to design my own educational system . . . :-)
